These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Cerberus Parent, Cerberus Child, and the Cerberus backend API. They are written for the product as implemented: a parent-managed Android parental-control system with device pairing, app blocking, usage summaries, and activity events.
By creating an account, pairing a device, or using Cerberus, you agree to these Terms and to the Cerberus Privacy Policy.
1. Eligibility
- You must be a parent, legal guardian, or other adult with lawful authority to supervise the child device(s) you pair.
- You must be able to form a binding contract under the laws of your jurisdiction.
- You may not use Cerberus if you are prohibited from receiving the Service under applicable law.
- Child devices are used under your supervision. Cerberus Child is not an independent social network account for children.
2. Parent Responsibilities
You agree that you are responsible for:
- Creating and securing the parent account (email/password, Google, or Facebook).
- Generating pairing codes only for devices you are authorized to supervise.
- Configuring app allow/block rules appropriate for your family.
- Reviewing activity logs, usage summaries, and protection alerts in Cerberus Parent.
- Keeping the Child app installed, paired, and granted the permissions it needs (including Accessibility Service, Usage Access where you want screen-time data, notifications, and Device Admin if you use removal protection).
- Explaining to the child, as appropriate, that the device is supervised.
- Complying with all laws that apply to monitoring a device you own or are authorized to manage.
You must not use Cerberus to monitor a device without lawful authority.
3. Child Device Requirements
Cerberus Child is built for Android. Core features depend on Android platform capabilities.
For full functionality, the child device typically needs:
- A supported Android version capable of running the Child app.
- Network access to the Cerberus backend.
- Accessibility Service enabled for app blocking.
- Usage Access enabled if you want daily screen-time sync.
- Device Administrator enabled if you use Cerberus’s uninstall/removal guard.
- Notification / foreground-service permissions so protection can remain active.
If required permissions or services are disabled, blocking and reporting may stop or become incomplete, and Cerberus Parent may show integrity alerts (for example, Device Admin or Accessibility turned off).
Cerberus does not guarantee identical behavior on every OEM skin, battery-optimization mode, or Android version.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to access another family’s accounts, devices, pairing codes, or data.
- Abuse pairing, authentication, or sync endpoints (including automated guessing of pairing codes or credentials).
- Reverse engineer, attack, or disrupt the Service except as allowed by mandatory law.
- Use Cerberus for unlawful surveillance, harassment, stalking, or workplace monitoring where not permitted.
- Upload unlawful, harmful, or infringing content through any field that accepts user input (for example, display names or avatar URLs).
- Circumvent rate limits, ownership checks, or security controls.
- Resell or misrepresent Cerberus as a product you own without authorization.
We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms.
5. Accessibility Service Usage
Cerberus Child uses Android’s Accessibility Service only to:
- Detect which app package is in the foreground.
- Enforce parent-configured app blocks.
- Present a block screen / overlay and return the user home when a blocked app is opened.
- Support related activity reporting of package name, app name, and whether the open was blocked.
You acknowledge that:
- Enabling Accessibility Service is required for reliable app blocking.
- Disabling it will impair or disable blocking.
- The Service is not licensed for advertising, analytics SDKs, or reading private message content.
A separate Accessibility declaration for Google Play is provided in ACCESSIBILITY_DECLARATION.md.
6. Account Security
You are responsible for:
- Keeping parent login credentials confidential.
- Securing devices that hold parent JWTs or child device tokens.
- Promptly signing out shared parent devices.
- Not sharing pairing codes publicly.
Cerberus implements security measures such as hashed passwords, hashed refresh tokens, JWT access tokens, ownership checks, and rate limiting, but you remain responsible for unauthorized use arising from compromised credentials or physical access to a paired child phone.
If you believe your account or a paired device is compromised, sign out where possible, unlink the device in Cerberus Parent, and contact getcerberusapp@gmail.com.
Note: The current release does not include an in-app “forgot password” flow. Social sign-in users should use their Google or Facebook account recovery tools. Email/password users should contact Support for assistance.
7. Service Description and Limitations
Cerberus provides:
- Parent registration and authentication.
- Child device pairing and device tokens.
- Installed-app sync and allow/block policy.
- Accessibility-based app blocking on Android.
- Activity event logging and daily usage summaries (when Usage Access is granted).
- Protection integrity status and related parent alerts.
- Device unlink and session logout.
Cerberus does not currently provide (among other things): full account self-service deletion in-app, password reset UI, location tracking, call/SMS monitoring, content filtering of web pages inside third-party browsers beyond app-level blocking, or advertising.
Features may change as we ship updates. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the Railway-hosted backend.
8. Disclaimer
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- App blocking will catch every app or every OEM edge case.
- Usage statistics will be complete if Android Usage Access is denied or OEM restrictions apply.
- The Service will be error-free, secure against all attacks, or always online.
- Third-party sign-in providers (Google, Facebook) will remain available.
Parental controls are a tool, not a substitute for parenting, device physical security, or education about online safety.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CERBERUS AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (US $50), IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID ANY FEES.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.
10. Termination
You may stop using Cerberus at any time by signing out, uninstalling the apps, and unlinking child devices.
We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service.
Upon device unlink, device-linked records are removed according to the backend’s deletion and cascade behavior. Parent account records may remain until deleted through a supported process or a manual request to getcerberusapp@gmail.com.
Sections that by nature should survive (including Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law) survive termination.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence apply.
Courts located in the Philippines shall have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms when the Service changes. We will update the “Last updated” date and may provide notice through the apps or Website https://cerberus-website-nine.vercel.app/. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
